Product Design
Clip provides point-of-sale terminals that enable businesses to accept multiple payment methods. With products like Clip Plus 2, Clip Pro 2, and Clip Total 2, the company helps businesses streamline sales and operations.
My role & responsibilities
As a Lead Product Designer, I was the bridge between Product, Design, and Company goals, ensuring alignment. I worked closely with the Product Manager and Head of Design to define expectations and timelines while supporting designers with vision, feedback, and execution.
The challenge
The previous onboarding experience lacked scalability. As Clip introduced more features requiring user data, the process became cumbersome. Additionally, Clip device users had unique constraints, making it essential to design a seamless flow from app download to selling within minutes.
Goals
Simplify the onboarding process by removing unnecessary steps while complying with Mexican financial regulations. The solution needed to be flexible for future features and encourage user engagement beyond Clip’s well-known hardware, highlighting digital services.
Research & insights
We analyzed user data to identify pain points, particularly around the Know Your Customer (KYC) process. Many business owners delegate account creation to employees who lack access to sensitive business information, causing friction. Additionally, a significant portion of Clip’s users are non-tech-savvy, necessitating an intuitive experience.
Design Direction
We prioritized simplicity by introducing new patterns and interactions while maintaining consistency within the existing design system. The UX approach focused on reducing unnecessary steps and ensuring a strong final onboarding step that encouraged first sales.
