Eva (Edenmed) provides cloud-based solutions for medical institutions, including advanced PACS for image management, operational tools, and data-driven intelligence to enhance productivity in healthcare settings.
My role & responsibilities
As Lead Designer for Eva PACS, I focused on understanding user pain points through research and user interviews, transforming insights into effective design solutions. I built the Eva Design System, created prototypes, conducted user testing, and ensured quality and brand consistency during implementation.
The challenge
The healthcare sector in LATAM faces unique challenges. Our mission was to deliver an advanced AI-powered PACS for laboratories, radiologists, and patients. Major challenges included users hesitation toward cloud services, as users preferred outdated solutions like Word and Excel. High exposure to blue light, leading to eye strain among radiologists working 12-18 hours daily. Archaic methods of delivering patient results (e.g., CDs, printed tomographies). Slow result delivery times, where efficiency could mean saving lives.
Goals
Build a trustworthy cloud-based PACS where users never lose work. Create a functional solution for small screens, improving workflow and business productivity. Reduce eye strain with a dark mode UI, and digitize processes for practitioners and patients, eliminating inefficiencies.
Research & insights
Dark Mode for Eye Protection – Reduced blue light exposure to mitigate eye strain for practitioners working long hours. Split-Screen Editor + DICOM Viewer – Enabled users to analyze images and report findings simultaneously. Faster Digital Result Delivery – Allowed laboratories to send results via email or WhatsApp, while still supporting print and CD options as backups. Optimized Admin Panel – Improved workflow efficiency, helping labs increase revenue through better time management.
Design Direction
Despite the complexity of PACS software, we prioritized familiarity, efficiency, and scalability: Modern, but intuitive UI – Instead of drastically changing practitioner workflows, we refined existing patterns for faster learning curves. Seamless navigation – Simplified processes for increased productivity. Integrated tools – Combined image viewing + reporting in one screen, eliminating the need for multiple applications. Optimized for all screen sizes – Ensured usability even without 4K displays, prioritizing low resource consumption.
Key Features
Studies List – Quick access to pending, urgent, and normal cases with sorting, filtering, and search capabilities.
Upload Functionality – Users could archive & analyze studies directly in the cloud.
DICOM Viewer + Reporting – Unified image analysis and report creation to streamline diagnostics.
Instant Result Sharing – Delivered reports via email & WhatsApp, with traditional print/CD backup options.
Impact
Industry First: Introduced Mexico’s first advanced PACS cloud experience, setting a new standard in healthtech innovation.
Massive Adoption: Thousands of new users joined the platform, with over 70K studies interpreted in the first months post-launch.
Significant Revenue Growth: Established Eva as a category leader, successfully pivoting from breast cancer detection cabins to digital healthcare solutions.
